Dear Robert,
Thanks for writing in. Listen, I did not get help until I was 46. I mean, I had gone to rehab for a few days here and there, but I got serious in 2006 at 44 years old. The most amazing thing is I am now happier than I ever have been, I only wish I had gone and taken care of myself earlier. Lots of times it takes getting really tired of the disease before you do anything. But I am just here to tell you I have never felt better, and ALL the partying I did trying to essentially feel better does not compare to how great I feel today. You can take that to the bank. I am not saying it is easy, as you have a tough fucking year ahead. But after you get through it, God Willing, you will hopefully see what I am talking about and find TRUE happiness!

Hi Dontdiecrying,
In addition to your post I was wondering, people that have a nervousness bout can also have what is termed a panic attack. These attacks can be generated by numerous stresses that happen in lifetime. Though acquiring an attack of anxiousness can be moderate to severe, the attacks of panic are in most cases in the far more severe group. Let's look much more carefully at each of these sorts of attacks to see what leads to them and how they can be addressed.
Keep up the posts!

Hello, Everyone! I'm happy to have found a good place to visit. Here's my issue. My son has been diagnosed with panic attacks and since I'm brandnew to this, I'd like to just drop in and lurk and learn for a bit before I jump in. I have done some research some of thetreatments out there and if I see anything that looks promising, I'll outcomes if that's OK. All for now and I look forward to getting to know some of you!

I met Corey at a re hab in Montreal in the late 1990's. I was the NA H&I co ordinator for that treatment facility. I remember that he pulled me aside after the meeting for a chat and it was then that I discovered his celebrity status. I remember him telling me how hard it was to stay stopped and equally hard to abstain from the party scene and lifestyle to which he had grown accustomed.
When I returned the following Friday I learned that he had left the facility.
Rest in peace Corey.

I was clean at the time and improving in my recovery. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. I've been using for the last 10 years. I've sunk to new depths of isolation depression and hopelessness. The good news is that I want to regain my freedom independence and sanity. I'm in the process of checking into a treatment facility my 6th. They say the 6th is .....no one says that ...anyways. Addiction is a serious disease I let it go unattended and now my life has become a sad and lonely unproductive messy hopeless well if you're an addict you know.
I've survived a bit longer than Corey did I'm now 52 and the same could have happened to me at any time.

as an MD for 25 years i believe we have to be constantly looking for new treatments for our patients with severe treatment resisitent anxiety and depression and addition. i do not think the current medications are very effective at all and actually have a response rate barely above placebo. take a look at these two new things i have come across recently.

thanks for your work..... Dr Mark.............

Hey larka thanks for your comments. As to your friend, you are absolutely right -- there is nothing anybody can do to help alcoholics who do not first want to help themselves. And don't let their sickness become your sickness,as some people do from the guilt and negative feelings stemming from wanting to save the person...

Dear Ren:
I view myself as a kind, loving person and often wonder how I ended up on Wall Street for 17 years where you get screwed on a regular basis. I think I drank to put some of those hurt emotions in the back seat. Just remember, if you are a functioning alcoholic and generally happy with life with your cocktails, that's fine. But if life ever starts getting away from you, there is life without booze that can be better than life with booze. I NEVER in a million years thought I could say that, either, because I did not think anybody liked to drink as much as I did. It takes some work and adjustment, but it's the truth. Had drugs not gotten in the mix for me, I'd still likely be drinking.

i can relate with the comments. i'm probably one of the few O-dependents to first study opiates and their effects (pro, con) before consciously holding one's nose and diving into fully aware physical dependence.

i first went to my doc asking if he'd heard of bupe for refractory depression, and from the look on his face, i knew that my only choice was illegal full agonists. this is not ideal, because the euphoria is unwelcome, distracting and feels unnaturally good...

...not good. What Laura is saying frustrates me more than you know, because i've been living with a small pet monkey for a while now and feel so incredibly... happy and normal; it would be nice if potential EDSers could simply get a legal prescription for subs and live an above-board life.

i still shake my head... i'd never done drugs before 2.5 years ago and never thought that opies would become a part of my life.

i hope this doesn't sound like i'm giving others an excuse to do drugs (especially on this site!!); but EDS theory is growing stronger by the day, and researchers are taking the opioid systems more seriously now, for example with kappa system research. i'm caught in a predicament: do i tell refractory depressives about this possible option and help lift them out like i've been lifted, or keep it to myself?

Thanks for dealing with this issue, Tom.
